Many Happy Returns to my friend Mike, 84 today. Mike greatly admires Pierre Monteux, so he conducts Beethoven Eight (Chicago SO film) and, one way or another, Brahms’s Four Symphonies. Bonus tracks.
What a thoughtful way, Col, to celebrate the birthday of our very good friend.
The superb Chabrier ‘bonus’ absolutely blew me away, so stylish and brilliant is Monteux’s performance – one that I doubt whether even Beecham could have matched. Have a really nice day, Mike, and here’s wishing you many happy returns!
