Heather Harper (1930-2019)
One of Sal’s favourite composers is Richard Strauss. I’ve chosen as a birthday-gift the sublime Das Rosenband (Opus 36/1) in the wonderful version by Heather Harper with the London Symphony Orchestra & Richard Hickox.
I could equally have chosen Heather Harper’s exceptional traversal of Ravel’s Shéhérazade, as recorded with the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Pierre Boulez.
