Norman was the concertmaster of the Festival Orchestra in Aspen when I was a student. Great leader as well as a fine and funny gentleman. He would eventually play on a del Gesu Guanerius, previously owned by Albert Spalding and then my father. I heard Norman play the Barber concerto on this instrument, the same one used for the premiere of this piece.
Lovely silken playing. Must try and find that RCA ‘Bluebird’ recital – never knew of its existence until now.
