Award winning concert pianist, Maria Marchant, launched a new initiative during lockdown from home called 7 Notes in 7 Days at 7pm, giving a live performance premiering a composition every Monday at 7pm on her professional Facebook page.
Now in its twelfth week, ‘7 notes in 7 Days at 7pm’ will be streaming live from the stylish Blüthner Piano Centre on Baker Street, London, each Monday night starting from Monday 20 July.
The following week, Monday 27 July 2020, Marchant will give the world premiere of a work composed by international composer and baritone Roderick Williams OBE. Chaconne at Five, was composed by Williams in his teenage years and has since been discovered in a drawer!
Maria is hoping that this work will reach out to younger budding composers and open a call for scores to showcase new talent.
Having already featured live premieres by composers including Charlotte Botterill, Joanna Gill, Jorge Ramos and many more, Maria is looking for more composers to showcase and give a platform to, particularly young composers.
Usually performing in the UK and internationally, Marchant has given many premieres of new pieces written for her including by international composers. A celebrated recording artist for SOMM Recordings, Maria has performed in many leading venues and festivals.
Pianist Maria Marchant said: ‘With concerts cancelled and venues closed during lockdown, I was determined to start a new initiative, showcasing composers and giving them an opportunity for their creative works to be heard. Contemporary music has always been an important part of my life and I have been thrilled to see such a great response to my project at a time when the classical music industry has been massively affected by the pandemic. I’m looking forward to taking ‘7 Notes in 7 Days’ to the next chapter by hosting the live streams at London’s Blüthner Piano Centre on Mondays: I hope that by hearing the world premiere of Roderick Williams’ ‘Chaconne at Five’ which he wrote in his student days will inspire other young composers to send me their pieces and share them with the world!’
Composers are invited to send scores for consideration by email to info@mariamarchant.com
Works that are selected will be performed on Maria Marchant’s professional Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/maria.marchantpf/live
