VOICES RELEASED ON 31ST JULY 2020 ON DECCA RECORDS
Ground-breaking composer Max Richter announces the release of ‘Origins’, the third single from his forthcoming album release VOICES – a major new recording project inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights released on Decca Records.
‘Origins’ follows the release of singles ‘Mercy’ and ‘All Human Beings’ which have generated a massive public response.
At the core of the single is a profound sense of unified community. In a time of dramatic change, ‘Origins’ seeks to offer a clear musical message of hope and reflection.
For the project, Richter crowd-sourced multiple readings of the Declaration in different languages. He received hundreds of submissions in over 70 languages. These readings form the aural landscape of ‘Origins’: they are the VOICES of the album title.
It was important to Richter that these VOICES were real people, not actors. The result is incredibly powerful and moving.
Max said; “At such times it is easy to feel hopeless but just as the problems of our world are of our own making, so the solutions can be. While the past is fixed, the future is yet unwritten, and the Declaration sets out an uplifting vision of a better and fairer world that is within our reach if we choose.”
VOICES is Max Richter’s ninth studio album, following on from such trailblazing recordings as Memoryhouse (2002), The Blue Notebooks(2004), Infra (2010), Recomposed: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons (2012) and most recently SLEEP (2015).
With VOICES, Max Richter continues to push the boundaries of music, art and technology – forging new creative paths to embrace listeners worldwide. These new projects are not only a showcase of his extraordinary talent, but also a call to contemplation and a celebration of community in changing times.
