Oliver Soden, whose acclaimed biography of Sir Michael Tippett was published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in 2019, will succeed Anthony
Whitworth-Jones as Chair of The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation. Katie Tearle MBE, Director of New Music, Edition Peters Group has been appointed Deputy Chair.
Anthony Whitworth-Jones will continue as a Trustee, with Chris Scobie, Lead Curator, Music Manuscripts, British Library also joining the Board.
Edward Gardner OBE, whose recording of Tippett’s The Midsummer Marriage with the London Philharmonic Orchestra will be released in September, has recently been made a Patron, joining David Cairns CBE, Paul Crossley CBE, and Sir Andrew Davis CBE.
Established in 1979 with funds from the sale of Tippett’s manuscripts to the British Library, The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation has made more than 500 grants in support of young musicians and composers, new music and music education initiatives. Most recently the Foundation has supported the LPO’s new recording of The Midsummer Marriage, recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall at the opening of the 2021/22 season which marked the start of Edward Gardner’s tenure as Principal Conductor.
