I am a volunteer guide at the Firs, Birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar, and regularly play his recordings on a vintage 1927 HMV acoustic gramophone and tell the story of Elgar’s recording legacy from 1914 to 1934. Many visitors are amazed that he opened Abbey Road Studios and recorded there way before the Beatles! Thankfully You Tube can confirm the truth of my storytelling. We have over 100 copies of his recordings dating from acoustical up to 1925 and electrical from 1926 to 1934.
