Paul Baumann CBE is to become Chair of Academy of Ancient Music’s Board of Trustees from September 2021.
Baumann has served as a member of the AAM Board since 28 June 2018. As former Chief Financial Officer of NHS England and current Receiver General and Chapter Clerk of Westminster Abbey, Baumann brings a wealth of experience to his new role and a passion for period instrument performance.
Baumann comments: “As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2023, this is a very exciting time to be taking over as chair of AAM’s board of trustees. Our musicians are in award-winning form, and under the leadership of Laurence Cummings and John McMunn, our new Music Director and Chief Executive, we have renewed energy and a fresh vision for taking forward the commitment to excellence and innovation which has always characterised AAM’s work.”
Baumann replaces outgoing Board member Philip Jones, who has served on the Board for eight years, and four years as Chair.
Jones says: “It has been an enormous privilege to lead one of the great period orchestras of the world. I am enormously proud of our staff, our players, our board and our supporters who have brought us through some challenging years, especially recently, with flying colours. AAM is well set for a sparkling future and I look forward to continuing to support the orchestra as it reaches yet greater heights of artistic achievement.”
