Paul Dukas (1865-1935)

Dukas’s very select catalogue of compositions (he was intensely self-critical) includes the imperishable Sorcerer’s Apprentice, but it’s worth looking beyond that brilliant work: there’s an opera, a ballet and a Piano Sonata, for example, and also this superb if unaccountably neglected Symphony in C. Jean Fournet (1913-2008) conducts an excellent performance.
