“After months of silence it’s wonderful to bring music back into the venue with such a special artist albeit without audiences.” Kevin Appleby, Concert Hall Manager

Turner Sims is delighted to announce an exclusive online recital by celebrated pianist Paul Lewis. Broadcast live from the concert hall – the first performance in the venue since March – the programme features works by three composers with whom Lewis is synonymous. Haydn’s sonata, described by the composer as his “longest and most difficult”, is followed by Beethoven’s rarely heard, improvisatory Fantasia. Schubert’s work, itself titled Fantasia by his publisher, was hailed by Schumann as “the most perfect in form and substance” of all of the composer’s sonatas.

A favourite of the audience, Paul Lewis’ relationship with Turner Sims goes back more than 20 years. He is a patron of the Friends of Turner Sims membership programme and was the patron of the Steinway Piano Appeal. His online concert marks the start of the autumn season at Turner Sims, which will be announced in due course. Paul Lewis will visit Turner Sims again on 11 May 2021, this time with an audience, and with a very different programme (infos and tickets here).
