The Tour to Taiwan & Hong Kong, conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, began with two concerts at the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taipei. The NY Phil is giving five concerts in three cities, performing symphonic masterpieces by Beethoven, Dvořák, and Tchaikovsky, and — joined by violinist Hilary Hahn, the NY Phil’s Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence for the 2023–24 season — Brahms’s Violin Concerto. (Check out a video of Hahn rehearsing with the Orchestra here.) Following the tour a group of musicians return to Shanghai for the first live activities in the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Partnership since 2019. The Presenting Sponsor for the tour and the partnership is Starr International Foundation.
