The New York Philharmonic has embarked on its first trip to Asia since 2019. The Tour to Taiwan & Hong Kong, conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, began with two concerts at the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taipei. The NY Phil is giving five concerts in three cities, performing symphonic masterpieces by Beethoven, Dvořák, and Tchaikovsky, and — joined by violinist Hilary Hahn, the NY Phil’s Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence for the 2023–24 season — Brahms’s Violin Concerto. (Check out a video of Hahn rehearsing with the Orchestra here.) Following the tour a group of musicians return to Shanghai for the first live activities in the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Partnership since 2019.
