2022 Cello Competition : candidates
Following the cancellation of the Piano Competition in 2020 and its postponement to 2021
(organised without an audience), we are pleased to announce that the 2022 Cello Competition will
take place in the presence of an audience, from 9 May to 4 June, in Flagey and the Brussels Centre
for Fine Arts. More information on www.queenelisabethcompetition.be.
68 candidates selected for the first round
Applications for this second cello edition were closed on Wednesday 8 December 2021. 152 cellists
(aged 18 to 31 years old) have applied. The age limit had been exceptionally raised by one year due
to the postponement of the Piano Competition.
In January, the videos of the candidates were viewed behind closed doors by an international jury,
presided by Gilles Ledure and consisting of : Natalie Clein, Roel Dieltiens, Marie Hallynck, Frans Helmerson, Anssi Karttunen and Jian Wang. The complete list of jury members will be published mid-March.

68 candidates have been selected for the first public round : 20 women and 48 men, representing 26
