Nina Stemme has withdrawn from tonight’s performance of Elektra due to illness. The role of Elektra will be performed by Ausrine Stundyte who makes her highly anticipated Covent Garden debut ahead of performing the title role in The Royal Opera’s Tosca next month.
Lithuanian soprano Ausrine Stundyte made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2020 as Elektra and performed the role again in 2021 in Salzburg, as well as at the Vienna and Hamburg State Operas. Recent engagements include Duke Bluebeard’s Castle at the Salzburg Festival and Venice; Katja Kabanova in Bergen; Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk in Geneva, Paris, Lyon and Antwerp; Dido and Aeneas, Erwartung and Teufel von Loudun in Munich; The Fiery Angel in Madrid, Aix-en-Provence, Zurich, Munich and Lyon; Lear in Munich; Die tote Stadt in Cologne; Salome in Berlin, Vienna, Bologna and Dallas; Mendi Mendiyan in Bilbao and San Sebastian; Tosca in Helsinki, Seattle and São Paulo; Die Gezeichneten at the Komische Oper Berlin; Eine florentinische Tragödie in Amsterdam; Tannhäuser in Venice and Antwerp; Die Eroberung von Mexiko in Cologne and Madrid; and Fidelio in Florence.
The rest of the cast remains as scheduled.
