Sad news: Bamber Gascoigne – indelibly associated with television’s University Challenge (1962-87: “your starter for ten”, “fingers on buzzers”) – has died aged 87. He also served on the board of directors at the Royal Opera House, and was involved with Grange Park Opera, facilitating the building of the Theatre in the Woods on the estate he inherited.
A sad loss, Bamber seems to have been a delightful man.
