A most congenial man and much-loved artist. I had the privilege of working with him when producing Leonard Slatkin’s recording of Elgar’s The Kingdom back in 1987. His professionalism, kindness, collegiality with his fellow singers and complete freedom from affectation made this relatively inexperienced young producer’s job a piece of cake – it was my first recording of choral music.
