Sad news – Béla Dekany, former leader of the BBC Symphony Orchestra (appointed in 1969, sharing with Eli Goren, covering the Boulez, Rozhdestvensky and Pritchard years), has died at the age of 96.

Absolutely, Tully. I was privileged to produce several BBCSO recordings in the 1980s with him leading. A civilised, and civilising, presence, and as supportive to his section as to this young and inexperienced producer.

Hmmm. Bela was born in 1928, so he passed at 94 years old, not 96.
