Christopher Nupen was a fine film maker .
I came across him when he delivered a thorough account of Sibelius’ life and works. We have lost a true professional in the film world.

Those films were part of my musical awakening. Jacqueline du Pre’s Elgar Cello Concerto, filmed in real time with the young Barenboim, scoreless and as fearless as his wife, still burns unforgettably into both ears and retina. Every young friend to whom I’ve shown it in this age of short concentration spans just sits there, immovable, mesmerised. Nupen saw into musicians’ souls.
