Sad news: mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza has died at the age of 87 or 89. She takes part in a complete Carmen in the title-role; San Francisco Opera; Kurt Herbert Adler conducting; October 30, 1981.

How very sad. I remember her as a restrained yet powerful Carmen at the ROH in 1984 – opposite Carreras. She made me think afresh about that role – always good!
How lucky we are she left quite an extensive recorded legacy.
