Sad news: tenor John Aler has died at the age of 73. Recitals from 1990 and from 2000. Also his DG/Chicago recording of Bartók’s Cantata profana, with John Tomlinson, conducted by Pierre Boulez.
I have had to piece Cantata profana together from different sources; it may not be exact!

Definitely A CHLORIS he sang French song wonderfully as at a Wimore recital in which he sang the gorgeous Madrigal by D’Indy recorded by F-D but I know of no other…cannot fathom why.

I was the bass soloist in a Schubert Mass in “G” with John, June, 2001, at Carnegie Hall. We hit it off immediately; no “big head” at all, and I was in awe of working with a famous tenor. It was a real pleasure to know/work with him.
