An important figure in danger of being not even a name among music lovers and record collectors under 40. There’s an important discography including Bach with Harnoncourt and Rilling. My partner and I, on holiday in Vienna six or seven years ago, found ourselves in Schubert’s birth house, and there was Equiluz, well in to his eighties, singing Schubert to us holiday makers. The voice was threadbare…but what storytelling, such ease and naturalness of phrasing. A day forever in our memories.
