Sir Simon Rattle forced to cancel concerts with Berliner Philharmoniker. Matthias Pintscher takes over as conductor
Sir Simon Rattle has unfortunately had to cancel his appearances conducting the 16-18 February concerts as he has to undergo a minor surgical procedure during that week.
The Berliner Philharmoniker are very grateful to Matthias Pintscher for taking over the concerts as part of the Biennale. György Ligeti’s Apparitions will no longer be performed, the other works remain unchanged. The programme is now as follows:
Thu 16.02.23 20:00
Fri 17.02.23 20:00
Sat 18.02.23 19:00
Philharmonie Berlin, main auditorium
Berliner Philharmoniker
Matthias Pintscher conductor
Amihai Grosz viola
Makeda Monnet soprano
Donatienne Michel-Dansac mezzo-soprano
Rundfunkchor Berlin
Bernd Alois Zimmermann Musique pour les soupers du Roi Ubu
Bohuslav Martinů Rhapsody-Concerto for viola and orchestra
György Ligeti Requiem
Quite a challenge for the new boy stand in. All the best to him and his musicians and, of course, to Sir Simon for his swift recovery.
Good to see Martinu’s wonderfully lyrical Rhapsody-Concerto in the programme. Why we get so little Martinu played in the UK is a mystery. The six symphonies are magnificent.
absolutely! I’m watching now on digital concert hall, and it is fantastic – sorry that it is not sir Simon though , but Matthias Pintscher is making a great job of it
