Berlin, May 17, 2023 – Sony Classical announces today a significant new and exclusive signing agreement with young rising star cellist, Anastasia Kobekina. Based in Frankfurt, Germany, this exciting and charismatic artist’s debut album will be released early 2024 and will paint a musical portrait of Venice with a modern twist as she explores our relationships to places through the past and the present.
Described by Le Figaro as “an unrivalled musician”, Anastasia Kobekina is one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians to emerge in classical music in recent years. She is known as much for her fearless musicality and faultless technique as for her charisma, esprit and personable communication skills. She is a natural artist in ultimate command of both baroque and modern instruments between which she regularly switches with ease and panache and displays an instinctive flair across a wide range of repertoire, rejoicing in music from the early baroque via the great romantics to contemporary music of the day.
Anastasia Kobekina is from a musical family – her father, Vladimir Kobekin is a composer – and she began her cello studies at the age of four. She is a current Borletti-Buitoni Trust Artist (2022) and a former BBC New Generation Artist (2018-2021). She studied cello with Frans Helmerson, Professor Jens-Peter Maintz and Jérôme Pernooand is currently studying baroque cello with Kristin von der Goltz. She is a prizewinner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (2019) and of the George Enescu International Competition (2016).
Ms Kobekina performs on a Stradivarius dating from 1698 on generous loan from the Stradivari Stiftung Habisreutinger.
Per Hauber, President Sony Classical remarked: “We are thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Anastasia Kobekina to Sony Classical. With her unique musical talent, exceptional creativity and passion for pushing the boundaries of classical music, we are confident that Anastasia Kobekina will be a major force in shaping the future of the genre. It makes us all very proud and happy to be her close partners on that fascinating journey”.
Anastasia Kobekina added: “I’m thrilled to join the incredible team of Sony Classical. Recordings are very important to me, offering such a unique opportunity for expressiveness and creativity and allowing me to explore and share my music in new and exciting ways.”
