Berlin, December 10, 2021 – Sony Classical is delighted to announce the signing of Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing.  For the start of the exclusive relationship Eldbjørg Hemsing will release ‘Winter Meditation’, a new arrangement based on Vivaldi’s famous Largo from the Four Seasons, on December 17.  The single release coincides with her performance at this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo on December 11.  Eldbjørg Hemsing’s Sony Classical debut album will be released in fall 2022.

Eldbjørg Hemsing has been praised for her “radiant and sophisticated performances” (BBC Music Magazine)and “her splendid combination of purity and sweeping, Heifetz-like intensity” (The Strad).

Born in Valdres, Norway, Eldbjørg Hemsing is one of the leading young violinists of today and is committed to bringing her art to new audiences across the world.  Her international career took off quickly, recording three award-winning albums, premiering several acclaimed new compositions and performing in the most prestigious venues in 15 countries, including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, the Verbier Festival and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.  She has performed with many orchestras such as Oslo Philharmonic, Vienna and Stavanger Symphonies, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Zürcher Kammerorchester, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras.  A cultural ambassador, Eldbjørg Hemsing has also performed at numerous major global events and venues such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Expo, the UN Security Council, and has toured the world with the royal family of Norway.  She has developed a close collaboration with the composer Tan Dun with whom she has premiered, toured and recorded several award-winning works.  A musical entrepreneur, Eldbjørg Hemsing is actively involved in a multitude of projects, all rooted in her passionate interest to bring classical music to a more mainstream audience.  As Senior Artistic Advisor of the prestigious global research company ‘Advisory Board for the Arts’, she spearheads ventures to bring transformative thinking to arts organizations and artists.  She co-founded the Hemsing Festival and is the Artistic Director of SPIRE, an innovative annual mentoring programme presented within the Nordland Music Festival based in the city of Bodø, to promote and nurture young artists in their artistic and personal self-development in the classical music world.

Eldbjørg Hemsing plays a 1707 Antonio Stradivari ‘Rivaz, Baron Gutmann’ violin, kindly on loan from the Dextra Musica Foundation.
