González becomes the first Guatemalan to debut in a lead role at Covent Garden
Soprano Adriana González makes three major house debuts in 2026-27, including at the Royal Ballet and Opera in Carmen (October-November 2026) where she becomes the first Guatemalan to debut in a lead role. She stars as Michaëla, the role she has recreated the most, having performed it in over 10 productions in her career so far. The opera, directed by Olivier Award-winning Damiano Michieletto, will be live streamed on 10 November.
Adriana González ushers in two further house debuts in the 2026-27 season including at La Monnaie in Il Pagliacci (March 2027) and at Munich’s Prinzregenttheater in a concert version of Lancelot by Joncières (January 2027).
Continuing a season rich in house and role debuts, González makes her first appearance as Elisabetta in Don Carlo in a concert version in Toulon (20 and 22 April), followed by her stage debut at Deutsche Oper in Berlin (May-June 2027) in the same role.
Meanwhile González will give several song recitals next year, including as Artist in Residence at the Life Victoria Lied Festival in Barcelona, with concerts in Madrid and in Barcelona, where she will sing a world premiere by Pau Casals. She will also appear at Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela, with Marina Viotti, (January 2027) and at Paris’ Théâtre Louis-Jouvet (May 2027).
González is fluent in several languages, lives in Paris, and records for Audax Records, having released Rondos for Adriana earlier this year, to great acclaim.
Growing up in Guatemala, Adriana González was inspired as a child by seeing her aunt play the piano. As a young musician, she would sing in rock and jazz bands, record jingles for the radio and organise her own concerts, working part-time at the university to pay for her music studies. Putting on her own independent productions at a time when professional opportunities for musicians were were not commonplace in her home country, González went on to become the first professional musician of her family, winning the Operália competition several years ago and now boasting a major international career.
