From Hyperion:
“Amelia Freedman CBE was the founder and guiding light of the Nash Ensemble, chamber music royalty on the Hyperion label for over 40 years.
While the relationship began under Ted Perry in the 1980s as a British series – works by Britten, Lambert, Bax, Bliss, Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Bridge, Walton and beyond – it grew over time to encompass composers as diverse as Suk, Poulenc, Richard Strauss, Korngold, Clara and Robert Schumann and most recently Debussy. The Nash Ensemble have created 40 albums on Hyperion to date across the 40 years of our association.
Amelia was famed for her energy and passion across an impressive career running classical music for the South Bank in London and artistically directing the Bath Mozartfest and Bachfest. For Harrison Birtwistle she and her Nash Ensemble have always been ‘on the side of the angels’. In fact, he put it more strongly: “there is no question they stand well over the line of good and are blessed with wings of gold.”
