Twenty-six tracks, fewer on LP, the World is your listening oyster with this one, Stephen Hough’s flight of fancies between Mary Poppins and springtime in Norway, an enjoyable journey of numerous moods and tempos, some finger-breaking for the pianist (scintillating for our ears), from a musician who knows his Golden Age pianists, their styles and repertoires, while being his exploring self; try a very measured Handel/Kempff Minuet in G-minor for a different take on that transcription, and there’s plenty of charm and warmth to melt any proposed Snowman.
