CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Orchestra concludes its 2022-23 Miami season with concerts this January at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, marking the conclusion of 16th year of its Miami residency. The Cleveland Orchestra’s Music Director Franz Welser-Möst will lead programs featuring music of Tchaikovsky and Schubert onJanuary 20 and 21, and works by Tchaikovsky, Respighi, and the Miami premiere of Deutsch’s Intensity onJanuary 27 and 28. Program update: Prelude Concerts take place beginning at 7:00PM at Knight Concert Hall with Cleveland Orchestra musicians performing music of Schubert and Piazzolla (January 20 and 21) and Andy Akiho (January 27 and 28). Admission to Prelude Concerts is included with concert tickets for each evening’s main performance, program information is listed below. The residency also includes education initiatives and community programming for Miami-Dade County School students. January education programs include string coaching sessions at MDCPSD’s Coral Reef High School and the Miami Music Project. All concerts at the Adrienne Arsht Center take place at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall. The Adrienne Arsht Center has been the presenting partner of the Orchestra’s Miami concerts since the annual residency began in 2007. Details of the Arsht Center performances and programs are included below. Franz Welser-Möst will lead four performances at the Arsht Center over two weekends in January 2023. The first weekend’s program features symphonic masterworks Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished”) and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 (“Pathétique”). The second weekend’s concerts feature Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto with Lisa Batiashvili, Respighi’s Roman Festivals, and the Miami premiere of Bernd Richard Deutsch’s Intensity (which was co-commissioned by The Cleveland Orchestra). Michael Tilson Thomas led performances at the Arsht Center on November 4 and 5 featuring New World Symphony Fellows performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”) with the Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra also performed Debussy’s Jeux, Poème dansé and Fantaisie (for piano and orchestra) with George Li. New World Symphony Partnership The Cleveland Orchestra and New World Symphony (America’s Orchestra Academy based in Miami Beach), will begin with the 2022-23 season a partnership that includes side-by-side concerts at the Arsht Center (November 4 and 5), chamber music performances, collaboration on digital content, as well as professional development and mentoring activities. The New World Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra have had a long and productive partnership. In addition to the nine New World Symphony alumni who are current members of The Cleveland Orchestra, musicians of The Cleveland Orchestra are prominent in New World Symphony’s coaching roster each year, and the connection between the two institutions is stronger than ever. Orchestra musicians will also participate in coaching with high school students at MDCPSD’s Coral Reef High School and Miami Music Project.
