Read our submission: Select Committee inquiry into misogyny in music |
We’re calling for concerted action by the music industry and Government to tackle misogyny, bullying, and sexual harassment.A study into bullying and harassment in the music industry by the University of Winchester and University of West Scotland found it “completely entangled in its fabric” with 99% of women surveyed reporting bullying and 96% experiencing harassment in the music industry. Our recommendations to the Women and Equalities Select Committee inquiry include supporting the creation of an Independent Standards Authority and legislating to make NDAs unenforceable for anything other than sharing confidential business information and trade secrets – not the coercion and control of music creators and freelancers. |
The future of music streaming: survey for creators |
Due to campaigning by music creators and the Academy, there has been increased debate and scrutiny of the economics of streaming and impact of algorithms used within music streaming services. Now, the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI), part of the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport, is researching the impacts that algorithmic recommendations on music streaming services are having on the music ecosystem.CDEI want to hear directly from music creators, the survey takes 10 minutes to complete and will be crucial to inform any future recommendations and interventions. |
