Decca Classics is proud to announce that River of Music, the new album from the Kanneh-Mason family, has today reached No.1 in the Official Classical Artist Albums Chart (19 September 2025).

Released on 12 September, the album reunites all seven siblings – Isata, Braimah, Sheku, Konya, Jeneba, Aminata and Mariatu – for their second joint release following the success of Carnival (2020).

River of Music shares how the Kanneh-Masons’ love of music has been passed on through generations. As a river flows from multiple sources whilst carving its path, this album celebrates the sources of the Kanneh-Masons’ musical inspirations rooted in personal stories of home, love and family. At the heart of the album is Schubert’s Trout Quintet, a piece the siblings grew up playing together in Nottingham and which has become part of the sound of their home – lively, joyful and full of character.

Alongside Schubert’s Trout, the album includes new arrangements of classical music, folk songs and spirituals – from Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Deep River to traditional Welsh hymns like Ar Lan y Môr. The siblings also showcase their unique connection through works such as Braimah and Aminata’s arrangement of Calon Lân, and Hiraeth by Isata Kanneh-Mason, performed by all seven. Other works featured include Handel’s Largo, Elgar’s Sospiri, Chopin’s Fantaisie-impromptu, Liszt’s Consolation No.3 and Dvořák’s Song to the Moon.

The seven siblings reunited on stage to perform Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals – a reprise of their celebrated 2021 BBC Proms performance – in aid of Music Masters. All proceeds from the concert supported the charity’s mission to bring music education and opportunity to children across the UK.
