GENEVA, 9 December 2021 – The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande calls for applications to the newly created position of Assistant Conductor. The chosen candidate will work directly with Jonathan Nott and an exciting roster of guest conductors on concerts, recordings, operas, and tours throughout the 2022-23 season.
The role of Assistant Conductor at the OSR is established with the aim of helping a young conductor (aged under 36) launch a successful conducting career. The role offers a unique and privileged opportunity to gain a broad experience across all activities of the orchestra. The candidate will be mentored by Jonathan Nott, the OSR’s Musical & Artistic Director, who has long been a strong supporter of aspiring musicians. A salaried position within the orchestra, the post is offered for the duration of the 2022-23 season.
In addition to assisting Jonathan Nott and a range of guest conductors during rehearsals, concerts, recordings, tours and recruitment, the Assistant Conductor will also prepare & conduct a series of concerts for young audiences.
Activities offstage include participation in workshops, career days, conferences, and the artistic committee. Furthermore, the incumbent will also spend up to 20 days with each of the orchestras administrative departments to gain an insight into orchestral management.
Interested conductors are invited to send their application, including a video, before 9th January 2022. Following an initial selection by the jury, a maximum of 4 applicants will participate in the final competition round, where they will conduct the orchestra in Geneva on 11th March 2022. The winner will start their position on 15th August 2022 for the duration of the 2022-23 season.
