The first six albums in a series of exclusive subscription concerts from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are released by Platoon. These six concerts, captured live in the Golden Hall of Vienna’s Musikverein, are released exclusively on Apple Music. Since 1860, the Vienna Philharmonic’s Subscription Concerts have formed the basis of the orchestra’s musical endeavours and have become an indispensable component of Viennese musical life. The popularity of this series is such that fans of the orchestra wait years before being given the opportunity to get a subscription. As the recordings of these concerts become available for streaming for the first time, the partnership will extend the global reach of this world-class orchestra, in a collaboration set to continue until 2026. The first six albums feature concerts recorded during the 2020-2021 subscription season. The releases include performances from the likes of Gautier Capuçon, Riccardo Muti and Franz Welser-Möst, in repertoire ranging from Mozart to Thomas Adès. Also set for release is an album showcasing Martha Argerich’s scintillating performance of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1, under the baton of her life-long friend and colleague Maestro Daniel Barenboim, recorded in 2017. |
