Thielemann seems to me to be a very narrow conductor focusing in on German and Austrian classics.
That is certain the impression I get from his recordings. Do his concerts include others of similar importance!
Edward, in Berlin he’s conducted Messiaen and Tchaikovsky; in Dresden the Verdi Requiem; and he has recorded Cav & Pag. True though that Austro-German repertoire is central to him – but there’s rather a lot of that, and he is surely right to champion the music he feels closest to. Col
