Turner Sims Southampton is excited to announce a new, two-year partnership with one of Europe’s leading period instrument ensembles, the Chiaroscuro Quartet. Led by revered violinist, Alina Ibragimova, this international ensemble performs music of the Classical and early Romantic periods on gut strings and with historical bows, and their unique sound is highly acclaimed by audiences and critics all over Europe.

The quartet open the series at Turner Sims with works by two giants of the Classical period, Haydn and Beethoven, on Thursday 14 October, with further performances in 2021-22 taking place on 9 January3 May, and 21 June 2022.

Every concert in the series will be free to attend for 8-25 year olds thanks to the generous support of the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust, with whom Turner Sims has collaborated for many years.  Full details of the scheme can be found here

Concert Hall Manager Kevin Appleby says: I am delighted to welcome the Chiaroscuro Quartet as Turner Sims Associate Artists from 2021/22, and thrilled to offer our audiences such an opportunity to get to know this excellent ensemble and their work better over the coming year. Thanks to the support of the Cavatina scheme we can ensure that we can bring the music and these wonderful musicians to many more people for every one of their visits.

Chiaroscuro Quartet says: ‘It’s such a pleasure for us to be Associate Artists at Turner Sims! We have been coming here regularly for years and truly enjoy performing in this nice acoustic. The audience is always so welcoming and we can really feel their enthusiastic warmth every time we play here.’
