The Berliner Philharmoniker will stream their concerts live from the Great Hall of the Philharmonie Berlin
in the Digital Concert Hall again in March.
Both concerts will devote half of the programme to Russian music, a focus of the current season.
On Saturday, 6 March, Paavo Järvi conducts Sergei Prokofiev‘s Sixth Symphony in E flat minor and
Ludwig van Beethoven‘s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 5 in E flat major. Pianist Igor Levit, who
presented the complete cycle of Beethoven’s piano sonatas several times during the Beethoven Year
2020, will perform the solo part. This is Igor Levit’s first appearance with the orchestra in the Philharmonie
Berlin, following his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival in 2015.
During the second half of the programme, Paavo Järvi, who has been closely associated with the Berliner
Philharmoniker since his debut in February 2000, will conduct the Sixth Symphony, op. 111, by Sergei
Prokofiev, who was a great admirer of Beethoven.
The following Thursday, 11 March, the Berliner Philharmoniker will present Antonín Dvořák‘s Seventh
Symphony in D minor and Peter Tchaikovsky‘s Violin Concerto, with Lisa Batiashvili as soloist, conducted
by Semyon Bychkov. The Russian conductor has been a regular guest of the Berliner Philharmoniker
since 1985, as has the Georgian violinist, who made her debut with the orchestra in October 2004.
Based on the decisions taken by the federal and state governments on 5 January, both the Great Hall
and Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie Berlin will remain closed until 31 March 2021. In addition,
there will be no daily tours of the Philharmonie or free lunch concerts during this period.
