Brilliant Dad’s Army – but does anyone else remember Double Summer Time during
World War II? The clocks went forward an hour in (I think April, might have been end of March), and went forward another hour for three months beginning of June – so June July and August it remained light until about 11pm – saved colossal amounts of electricity for the country – then went back to ‘normal’ Summer Time at the beginning of September until very end of October, then back to ‘European’ time. Some local football matches during Double Summer Time began at 9.00pm (!!!!) without floodlight! Today, of course, such a money-saving change would mess up our computerised clocks.
