JOSH GROBAN To Appear as Featured Soloist on the New York Philharmonic’s 2024–25 Opening Gala Concert

Cynthia Erivo Has Withdrawn Due to a Scheduling Conflict

The New York Philharmonic announces that Josh Groban — the Emmy, Tony, and Grammy Award–nominated singer, songwriter, actor, and philanthropist — will be the soloist on the New York Philharmonic’s Opening Gala Concert, September 24, 2024, at the Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall.

On the Gala concert, guest conductor Manfred Honeck will lead Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture and a suite Honeck created of music from Puccini’s Turandot, as well as the selections that Groban will sing, to be announced from the stage.

Groban made his NY Phil debut on a televised concert celebrating Marvin Hamlisch on December 31, 2012. He has since returned for the Opening Gala Concert, in September 2014, and the Virtual Gala in November 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Groban said, “I’m delighted and honored to perform with the New York Philharmonic on their Opening Gala. The NY Phil has given me countless incredible musical memories both in the audience and onstage, and it’s always a thrill to sing with them and support their cultural contribution to New York and the world.”

This year’s Gala honors the many contributions of visionary philanthropists Klara Silverstein and NY Phil Board Member Larry A. Silverstein.

The Gala Co-Chairs are Dr. Kathryn Beal, Karen and Richard LeFrak, Joan and Joel I. Picket, Susan and Elihu Rose, and Didi and Oscar S. Schafer.

Gala events include a cocktail reception from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on the Leon and Norma Hess Grand Promenade; the concert, which begins at 7:00 p.m.; and a seated dinner immediately following the performance, attended by NY Phil artists and VIPs, also on the Hess Grand Promenade. Gala dress will be black tie.
