I hope so. Two old and close friends making music. But, Daniel Barenboim has recently said he is restricting his activities, especially as a conductor, and Zubin Mehta, although very busy of late, has recently withdrawn from a run of Richard Strauss’s Salome at La Scala in January and also the opera house’s Christmas Concert.

… I guess the plan for the Konzerthaus concert is that Mehta conducts the Overture and the Chopin Concerto, and that Barenboim directs the Beethoven from the piano, as he has done numerous times. Let’s see.

Daniel Barenboim says that he will be taking “a step back from some of my performing activities, especially conducting engagements, for the coming months” due to health reasons.
