The award-winning Wrocław Baroque Ensemble –a resident ensemble of the National Forum of Music (Nardowe Forum Muzyki – NFM) in Poland – present a series of concerts in Romania and the UK exploring rarely performed works from Polish composers. Since the ensemble’s formation in 2012, it has specialised in historically informed performance of Polish renaissance and baroque music in particular, under the direction of founder and conductor Andrzej Kosendiak.
The Ensemble perform in Romania as part of the Icon Arts Festival 2025, with concerts in Pitești Philharmonic Concert Hall [31 July] and Brașov Philharmonic Concert Hall [2 August] and a programme that explores rarely performed works by Polish composers Marcin Józef Żebrowski and Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki. Gorczycki is often considered as one of the finest Polish baroque composers and has been referred to as the ‘Polish Handel’; the Ensemble are renowned interpreters of his work, with its 2013 recording of works by Gorczycki awarded the Wrocław Music Prize. The Ensembles recent recording of Żebrowski’sVesperae in Visitatione Beatae Mariae Virginis – which will be performed in both of these concerts – was awarded a prestigious Fryderyk Award in 2023 and nominated for an Opus Klassik.
The Ensemble then present a concert in London’s iconic St Martin-in-the-Fields [14 August], performing selections from Mikołaj Zieleński’s magnum opus Offertoria et communiones totius anni alongside Vivaldi’s beloved Gloria RV 589.
All performances are conducted by Andrzej Kosendiak, one of the most active musicians and organisers of musical life in Poland. With a speciality in early music, Kosendiak also founded the Collegio di Musica Sacra ensemble and has conducted many award-winning recordings of early and baroque Polish music.
‘Harmony of the Continent: Polish Music for Europe’ is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland as part of the ‘Inspiring Culture’ 2025-2026 programme.
