Thanks for pointing out when the relevant sector is, Col. It’s very depressing listening to dreary corporation-speak, and there was not a lot of actual info, though an apparent commitment for the future. Much of the sector seemed to be about sale of Maida Vale Studios. Encouraging to hear of commitment to composers and new commissions. I do wonder, however, what the attitude is to programming on R3, especially on the early morning shows, music by 20th C male composers, other than eg Elgar, Delius, Britten, Walton and Tippett, who they can’t really leave out, A regular glance at the programme schedules appears to show absolute minimal inclusion, except perhaps by film or media composers. I write this not only with regard to John, but also many other major composers, such as Maw, RR Bennett and the Matthews brothers.
What a lacklustre trio. If they were being interviewed for their respective BBC jobs they would surely all be rejected. Shouldn’t chief henchman Webb have been present to TRY and justify the heinous cuts he is implementing?
