Nicholas Maw (1935-2009)
Maw begins at 37:30. (Second soprano’s first name is Janice.)
Philadelphia Orchestra – Eugene Ormandy conducts the “Western Hemisphere premiere” of Nicholas Maw’s Scenes and Arias (1962/67) & Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony; September 1974.
Delighted you have programmed Maw’s Scenes and Arias, a work which John esteemed very highly. The current neglect of Maw (and other British composers) in this country is shocking.
