This accolade is withheld for August. Too few CDs reviewed this month – there were many Proms that took up the time – and those handful of recordings I did manage, while interesting, didn’t quite achieve the necessary heights.

However, as it’s a commercial release, I am singling out a Bach (organ) Chorale Prelude, added during August, for a return visit: sublime music, wonderful orchestration by Schoenberg, and conducted by the great Gielen:
