Insane, I say again. R4 Extra costs peanuts. And these peanuts help our sanity in a crazy world.
I would add to the BBC’s current insanity the way that the work and artistry of British composers, specifically white males, in the second half of the 20th century and beyond has largely been suppressed. With the BBC’s contract up for renewal before long, would it not be a good idea to show a little solidarity with British skills? Can you imagine any other country disregarding the abilities of its own composers so blatantly? And the work of the BBC is supported by British licence fee payers. Imagine the uproar if BBC TV no longer covered sports largely indulged in by British white male players. While I am specifically addressing the case of British white male composers, British white females of repute do not do so well either, as BBC R3 follows current political fashionable winds. This is not in any way a diatribe against female composers, or composers from other cultures. Let them have their space, but not at the cost of the destruction of attainments by British male composers. I do not write without knowing the facts. I have followed the schedules of the last several years.
