My review is on Classical Source:
While I’m here, a word about Sakari Oramo conducting Beethoven’s Eroica last Friday, to conclude the first live concert of BBC Proms 2020 (BBCSO, Royal Albert Hall, Radio 3, August 28). It may not have been the most boundary-breaking account, the most ‘heroic’, but it stays fondly in the memory as a full-of-life and joyful reading, releasing pent-up emotions through collegiate music-making. (As the Proms went live my computer went dead!)
Yes there were plenty of smiles in this Eroica but few moments of genuine deep emotional impact. Swift but light weight.
