BBC Proms are pleased to announce that Omari Douglas has been confirmed to take part in the Dream Prom at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 1 September.
The actor, best known for It’s a Sin, will take on the role of Sky, who, haunted by a recurring dream from his childhood, turns to a Dream Journal to understand his own mind.
Omari says: “I’ll never forget my first proms experience back in 2014 seeing Laura Mvula and Jules Buckley – it was so magical in scale and atmosphere. I’m so thrilled that I now get to perform in this unique and hugely collaborative prom. Dreams mean something to us all and I’m very excited to explore this on the epic Royal Albert Hall stage!”
From moonlight and fairy tales to soul fusion and a riot of South American rhythm, the Dream Prom takes us on a journey deep into the subconscious mind, its shadows, and the memories that make us who we are. This storytelling spectacle transforms the Royal Albert Hall with a series of dreamscape projections and live music, following the story of Sky.
The evening is co-created by 30 BBC Open Music artists from a range of backgrounds across the UK, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the BBC. Taking inspiration from their own lives and artistic journeys, their ideas have been interwoven to create a series of vignettes on the subject of dreams, identity and mental wellbeing.
